Lyme Disease - Lyme disease is an infection
caused by bacteria called Borrelia burgdorferi. These
bacteria are transmitted through the bites of ticks, primarily the
deer tick (Ixodes scapularis). Because the deer tick is very
small and its bite may go unnoticed, symptoms of Lyme infection can
develop in persons who do not remember exposure to ticks or a bite.
